Freeths leading the way in sustainability

18 December, 2024

Three Freeths lawyers have been recognised as Green Ambassadors in this year’s prestigious Legal 500 Green Guide, reflecting the firm’s ongoing leadership in sustainability.

The Green Guide, which previously highlighted firm-level achievements, now celebrates the efforts of individual legal professionals driving sustainability initiatives worldwide. This year, Clare King (Partner and Head of Clean Energy), Penny Simpson (Partner and Head of Environmental Law), and Kirstin Roberts (Sustainability and Waste Director) were honoured for their exceptional contributions to the green transition.

Their recognition underscores Freeths’ unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable practices across the legal sector and beyond.

Clare King was celebrated for her extensive work on major clean energy projects for high-profile clients such as Centrica plc and ENGIE. Her deep technical expertise spans a wide range of clean energy technologies, making her a trusted adviser in the renewable energy sector.

Penny Simpson earned praise for her market-leading work in natural environment law and natural capital law. Known for providing innovative solutions, Penny and her team help clients navigate the complexities of nature protection regulations and environmental law, enabling them to adapt to and benefit from an evolving legal landscape.

Kirstin Roberts was highlighted for her expertise in the waste and renewables sector. As a trusted adviser to publicly listed companies, SMEs, and local authorities, Kirstin has been instrumental in advancing sustainability efforts, including waste reduction and re-use initiatives.

Commenting on the news, Senior Partner at Freeths Philippa Dempster said: “A huge congratulations to Clare, Penny and Kirstin on this recent accolade, which is a real honour for them as individuals and for the firm. I’m incredibly proud of what they have achieved through their career and personal endeavours in driving forward the green agenda.

“With no other firm having more than three lawyers recognised in the Guide, this truly highlights just how highly regarded we are when it comes to helping clients decarbonise and improve their sustainability.''

“Freeths remains at the forefront of championing green initiatives, delivering innovative legal solutions that empower clients to drive sustainability. This recognition highlights their unwavering commitment to embedding sustainable practices into every aspect of legal service.”
